"It's a cheerleading uniform," Allison said. "We are all supposed to be wearing it."
Jon took them in from his vantage point. The girls were so involved in the conversation they hadn't noticed him. Amber was wearing a black fedora, her long hair flowing out from under it. Below it she had a green blouse with white spots, a yellow skirt, and a beige cardigan on over it, which seemed a bit too long, looking almost like a bathrobe. Tiffany had a t-shirt with the Doctor Who tardis on it, and a pair of ratty slacks that reminded him of Karyn's, and then sneakers. Melissa, usually known as the fashion maven, was wearing a loose sweatshirt that he realized had a subtle Starfleet delta as its pattern. And Sarah was standing behind them all, wearing a long tan skirt that practically reached her flats, and a loose white top...the exact opposite of Sarah's usual outfit, which usually screamed to people to stare it her, this one said to ignore her.
The four exchanged looks. "Why do you care how we dress?" Amber challenged. Which again, was odd, as Amber rarely was the first to speak up, and was usually just agreeing with whatever the others said. "Why is it any of your business?"
"It is embarassing," Jessica said..."I mean, if you want to destroy your reputation, that's your business...but don't drag me down with you."
Allison turned to her. "Jess...this isn't them talking...I mean, it is...but they all aren't making any sense."
Erika seemed to agree. "They need...maybe a doctor."
A witch doctor maybe, Allison thought. This didn't seem like they were sick. They looked healthy, just they were all acting like...not themselves.
"I assure you, we're perfectly fine," Tiffany said. "Shouldn't you be more concerned about the boy spying on you?"
She pointed and Jon suddenly realized he'd been noticed.
"That's just Jon...I asked him where you were," Allison said. All seven girls were watching him suddenly.
"I wasn't spying," Jon said. "I just heard you were acting weird."
"By your standard maybe," Tiffany said.
He moved closer. "Weird as in not how you acted yesterday," he said. He looked over at Sarah. "Do you remember what you called me yesterday?"
She paused, thinking about it. "Loser...I think. But I can't remember what you lost at. What game were we playing?" she said in a soft voice.
"We're getting you all to the nurse," Allison said. "Jon, I told you we got this...we don't need you around."
"You think the nurse will know what is going on with them?" Jon challenged.
"And you do?" Allison responded.
"No, but we have as much of a chance of figuring it out as the nurse," he said, lying about what he might suspect caused it, even if he didn't know what it was."
He turned back to Sarah and was surprised to see her suddenly wearing a pair of thick rimmed glasses. Those hadn't been there a second ago.
"What the hell?" Erika remarked as she saw it. They had all looked away for a moment at Jon vs Allison.
"Something is changing them," Jon said.
"You think?" Allison said, sarcastically. Truth is, she wasn't angry at Jon...but she was scared and needed to look like she had some control here. "But what...and into what?"
